World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.
Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the level of an item. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.
The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.
This is not the only factor that influences the level of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. item upgrading gives players the possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in the early game than in later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..
The luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
